Area overview

02

International Development opens the door to JCI’s wider network of young leaders. Through conferences, regional activities, sister-chapter relationships and hosted exchanges, members encounter different cultures, working styles and perspectives on the challenges facing communities and organisations.

Meaningful exchange requires preparation and follow-through. Members may research an event and its participants, help organise a delegation, welcome overseas guests, introduce Hong Kong and JCI Queensway, take part in cross-cultural discussions, and maintain contact after everyone returns home. These experiences build cultural awareness and confidence, while helping members learn how trust and collaboration can grow across cities and borders. The goal is to turn international exposure into relationships, shared learning and possible future action.

How learning happens

Practise through real responsibility

Begin with one clear responsibility, then progress through participation, practice, feedback and improvement.

Enter international settings prepared

Understand the event purpose, participants, cultural context and your role as a delegate so the exchange goes beyond photographs.

Share Hong Kong and Queensway clearly

Introduce the chapter, city and projects with substance while listening carefully to how young leaders elsewhere work and respond to challenges.

Continue a connection into collaboration

Follow up after the event, identify shared interests and explore visits, joint activities or knowledge exchange as practical next steps.

What you will practise

Move from participation to ownership

  • International event preparation
  • Delegation roles and protocol
  • Cross-cultural communication
  • Sister-chapter relationships
  • Hosting and local storytelling
  • Post-exchange connection and collaboration

Growth you can carry forward

Skills built in projects can travel into work and life.

Everyone starts from a different place and contributes at a different level. These are not test requirements; they are directions members can develop through continued participation, ownership and reflection.

Start with one activity
  • Communicate more confidently across cultures
  • Prepare for and fulfil a delegation role
  • Build a network of young partners across cities
  • Bring international perspectives into local projects
