Official arrangements: times, eligibility and applications

Under Science in the Public Service 2026, the Drainage Services Department (DSD) will hold its San Tin renewable energy and Yuen Long Bypass Floodway eco tour on Sunday, 29 November 2026, in two groups: 9:30am–12:30pm and 2:00–5:00pm. The itinerary covers solar facilities at San Tin Stormwater Pumping Station, Yuen Long Bypass Floodway, its engineered wetland and the Kam Tin River estuary at Nam Sang Wai. Meet at MTR Yuen Long Station Exit H; the official form provides for transport between the station and Nam Sang Wai. The free Cantonese tour is open to the public aged nine or above. Each participant aged 9–11 must be accompanied by at least one adult aged 18 or above. The advertised capacity is 50, with 25 per group, on a first-come-first-served basis. Each application may include up to four people, including the applicant. Email the completed official form to enquiry@dsd.gov.hk; DSD will notify applicants individually. Enquiries: 3965 8159. The form’s first page prints 2025 in the deadline, but its Chinese and English application notes and the government event page give Sunday, 15 November 2026. Confirm the deadline and remaining places with DSD before applying. Weather and itinerary changes follow the form and organiser’s notices. Our practical suggestions

Queensway suggests: bring a community question

Treat the tour as a community-observation exercise: notice how solar energy, flood-protection infrastructure and wetlands share urban space, and prepare one question for the guide. Before going with friends, check the application size, ages and accompanying-adult requirements; prepare flat walking shoes too. Afterwards, share your own notes and discuss how Queensway’s Community Development activities could respond to local environmental needs. Follow the guide’s explanations and designated route during the visit.

  • Which group suits me, and can I reach Yuen Long Station Exit H on time?
  • Does my application include no more than four people, with a qualified adult accompanying each participant aged 9–11?
  • Have I confirmed the 15 November deadline and places with DSD, and received my individual application result?

Bring flood-protection and ecology observations into community exchanges
