Official information: eligibility, fees and deadlines

Checked on 4 November 2026, the HKFYG Leadership Institute’s 2027 contest accepts full-time S1–S6 or equivalent students through school or individual applications. Contestants cannot also volunteer in this year’s contest and must be, or agree to become, registered HKFYG members before it begins. The linked early-bird form specifies 23:59 on Friday, 11 December 2026 and HK$150 per student. Individual applicants must follow both payment and form-submission steps; payment alone does not complete an application. The main page lists regular entry at HK$200, closing on 15 January 2027 without a stated time. In-person preliminary rounds require a three-minute prepared speech on a free topic and are scheduled for 23, 24 and 30 January 2027. Full contest rules remain to be announced, so recheck arrangements before applying. The original announcement date is unconfirmed; this is the compilation and checking date. Our practical suggestions

Queensway suggests: practise one well-supported idea

Start with something you have observed and write down what you want listeners to understand. Support it with one concrete example. Record a three-minute practice speech, ask a classmate to explain the point they heard, and adjust the structure and pace. Queensway members interested in supporting young people can exchange speaking-practice methods. A student’s decision to compete should reflect eligibility, school arrangements and family commitments. These are Queensway learning suggestions, not the organiser’s judging criteria.

  • Do I meet the full-time secondary-student and membership requirements, and will I apply through school or individually?
  • Can one concrete example support the main point I want to communicate in three minutes?
  • Have I checked fees, contest dates, updated rules and the complete submission procedure with my school and parent or guardian?

Bring speaking practice into Individual Development exchanges

Interested students should read the organiser’s official page and follow its application link, asking the organiser about details still to be announced.
